Key Numbers

Latino community in US is an important contribuitor to our country!

According to the 2023 new joint report from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the Latino Donor Collaborative (LDC), the economic contributions the Latino community makes to the U.S. are immense, that if the national Latino population were its own country, it would have the fifth-largest GDP in the world, $3.2 trillion, despite comprising only 19.1% of the U.S. population.

Additionally, their purchasing power of $3.4 trillion in 2021 comes with 4.7% annual growth, while non-Latinos experienced only 1.9%.

However, within STEM related jobs, the Latino population in US are underrepresented.

Hispanic workers remain underrepresented in  the STEM workforce.

Ethnic and racial representation within STEM fields are quite unbalanced and Hispanic/Latino people face some of the most noticeable disparities.

This lack of diversity is driven in large part by inequities in educational support and opportunities.

According to PAW Research Center report Latino represents 17% of the total US workforce, but only 8% of those are working on STEM jobs.

The workforce growth is in STEM, and we want to support the Latino population to take advantage of this opportunity helping them to succeed in STEM academically.

From 2021 to 2031, STEM occupations are projected to grow fast than others.

STEM jobs are projected to grow 10.8% between 2022 and 2032, almost 4x faster than non-STEM jobs.

Since 1990 STEM employment had grown 79% (from 9.7 million to 17.3 million), whereas overall employment grew only 34% (Pew Research Center, 2018).

The U.S. will need to fill about 3.5 million jobs by 2025, but 2 million may be unfiled due to a skills ga.p
